Multipoint inspection vehicle check car before buying




  • Headlights for cracks and dents
  • Windshield
  • Mirror
  • Glass
  • Basic walk around
  • All dash indicators illuminate, turn off after 2 seconds
  • Wipers and washers front and rear
  • Doors must close smoothly
  • Turn signals parking lights high beams, brake light reverse lights
  • Wrap weak magnet in a cloth so it barely stick to a fridge to check for repaint
  • Start engine, check for exhaust gasses coming out from oil refill hole
  • Exhaust gas must not be black or white.


  • Check if engine bolts have scratches, if it was ever opened before
  • Coolant itself nice and clear, use hydrometer to check min temperature
  • Hoses not too hard or soft. Too hard means pressure from engine leaks into coolant system.
  • Power steering fluid clear
  • Brake fluid clear
  • Oil level, oil not black nor milky
  • Transmission fluid, observe hot and cold range on dip stick, deposit on white paper, must not be dark

  • Belts proper tension, no cracks
  • Ignition wires
  • Battery > 12V
  • Air filter not too dirty
  • Cabin air filters, one might be locatedbehind the glovebox?

  • Move the tire back and forth, up and down, right and right to check for looseness in suspension and steering components
  • Check tire threads, must be equal depth over whole surface
  • Brake pads tick
  • CV boots (rubber covering axle connection the wheel)
  • Sway bar links not loose
  • Brake lines for cracks or leaks or rust
  • Inner or out tie rod end looseness, hold the tie rod end and move the wheel to check or just grab tie rod end and pull down and up to check
  • Springs for damage and shocks oil residue
  • Diff leaks, electrical connection secure
  • Oil leak from engine and transmission
  • Drive shaft joints and bushings
  • Exhaust, rubber hangers and clamps
  • Muffler must have a hole for condensate drainage
  • Parking brake cable ok
